BELVIDERE — The Rochelle Middle School track and field team is getting in on the outdoor fun, with the Royals taking on North Central Junior Conference foes Belvidere Central, Burlington Central and Prairie Knolls this past week at Belvidere Central.

Owen Angell had himself a day for the seventh grade boys, taking first in the long jump with a leap of 15-2 and placing second in both the 110-meter hurdles (18.40 seconds) and the 110-meter dash (15.11). Denny Johnson won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.27, while Andy Buskohl recorded three top-3 finishes including the 400-meter dash (third, 1:08), the 1600-meter run (second, 6:11) and the high jump (first, 4-6).

Josue Huerta placed fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:25, and the seventh grade boys fielded two top-5 finishers in the triple jump including Bryton DiSimoni (first, 27 feet) and Noah Brown (fifth, 21-9). Allie Tyrrell led the seventh grade girls in the throwing events, winning the discus with a throw of 57-6 and taking third in the shot put with a heave of 18 feet.

Jasmine Sarabia and Luciana Monroy each earned top-5 finishes in two events, with Sarabia finishing fourth in the long jump (10-8) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (36.65). Monroy placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.30 and fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:06. Emily Garcia’s leap of 19 feet in the triple jump earned her third place, and Idalyne Gonzalez’s time of 1:23.50 in the 400-meter dash got her fourth place.

Jennifer Saldana turned in three top-5 finishes for the eighth grade girls, running a 13.97 in the 100-meter dash for second place and running a 30.34 in the 200-meter dash for third place. Saldana also took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 10-2, while teammate Afi Gati won the shot put with a heave of 23-5 and took second in the high jump with a clearance of 4 feet.

Sofia Lenkaitis’ time of 19.14 in the 100-meter hurdles earned her fourth place, and Lenkaitis placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:46. Ayah Sbeih ran a 3;12 in the 800-meter run for fifth place, and Sbeih’s leap of 21-6 in the triple jump was good enough for third place, with Morgan Haas throwing 53 feet in the discus for fourth place.

Lazaro Gutierrez won the triple jump for the eighth grade boys with a leap of 28-7, and he took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.34. Connor DiSimoni’s time of 1:03.90 in the 400-meter dash earned him second place, and DiSimoni jumped 13-5 to take second in the long jump.

Keanon Voss took second in the shot put with a heave of 33-5 ½, and teammate Oscar Aguirre landed in fourth at 28-2. Aidan Seldal placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 23-7, while fellow eighth-graders Crue Larsen and Gio Romero recorded top-4 finishes with Larsen running a third-best 5:53 in the 1600-meter run and Romero turning in a fourth-best 3:06 in the 800-meter run.
