Royals travel to Rockton for Stephen Mack Invitational

ROCKTON — The Rochelle Middle School track and field team traveled to Stephen Mack Middle School in Rockton this past Saturday to compete against five other schools including Freeport and Belvidere South in the SMMS Invitational.

The RMS seventh grade girls team finished fifth overall with 21 points. Allie Tyrrell took first in the discus with a throw of 60-2, and she placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 20 feet. Emily Garcia ran a 7:46.97 in the 1600-meter run to finish sixth, while McKenna Erdman’s high jump of 3-10 put her in seventh place.

The seventh grade boys scored 16 total points to land in fifth place overall. Andy Buskohl led the Royals with a third-best clearance of 4-4 in the high jump, and Buskohl’s time of 5:53.28 earned him fourth place in the 1600-meter run. Owen Angell finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.58.

Rochelle’s eighth-graders combined for 60 points on the day, with the girls scoring 38 and the boys adding 22. The girls finished fourth out of six teams, with Jennifer Saldana taking second in the 200-meter dash (29.35) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (14.41). Sofia Lenkaitis ran a 19.04 in the 100-meter hurdles for third place and a 2:51.64 in the 800-meter run for another third-best finish. Afi Gati’s heave of 28-4 in the shot put earned her first place, and Gati also cleared 4-2 in the high jump for second place.

Connor DiSimoni ran a 1:02.42 in the 400-meter dash to place third, and DiSimoni also leapt 15-2 in the long jump for fourth place. Keanon Voss landed in second place with a heave of 35 feet in the shot put, while Crue Larsen recorded two fifth-place spots in the 1600-meter run (5:39.95) and the high jump (4-4). Oscar Aguirre’s throw of 68 feet put him in sixth in the discus, and Gio Romero’s time of 3:21.47 earned him sixth in the 800-meter run.
