RPD holds torch run for Special Olympics Illinois

On Wednesday morning, the Rochelle Police Department held its annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. RPD employees, family members and city employees took part in the event, which took place on Lincoln Highway from Illinois Route 38 to Lincoln Avenue.

RPD has taken part in the run since the early 1990s. The run was the last for Sgt. Chet Smith before he retires this year. Smith has participated in the event for the past 20 years and has always worn a Hawaiian shirt during it. Other runners wore leis on Tuesday to mirror his style.
