ROCHELLE — Although student-athletes in spring sports are unable to compete this season, the Rochelle Township High School Athletic Booster Club has teamed up with BEE Designs to give graduating seniors a special gift in recognition of their achievements as Hubs.

The RTHS Athletic Booster Club will be purchasing T-shirts from BEE Designs for all senior student-athletes in spring sports who lost their final seasons to the coronavirus pandemic. The shirts will feature the word “UNDEFEATED” on the front and the phrase “SENIOR 2020” on the back in honor of student-athletes who are now gearing up for the next chapter of their lives.

“My business philosophy has always been about giving back to the community,” said BEE Designs owner Barb Eychaner. “I think the shirts are an awesome way to commemorate the seniors and it feels good to recognize their achievements despite these unusual circumstances. It means a lot to me as a business owner in Rochelle, especially considering that my three children went through the high school and graduated. I think the shirts are a neat way to help fill the void they may be feeling without having their sports and their usual ceremonies.”

While the booster club will provide shirts to all senior student-athletes in spring sports for free, BEE Designs has made additional shirts with blank backs available online for $10 each at https://www.beedesigns.biz/coaster-sets. All orders must be placed by May 18 and shirts will be available for pick-up on May 30 at RTHS. Times have been designed for non-seniors (10 a.m.) and seniors from each spring sport including girls soccer (10:30), baseball (10:45), softball (10:55), boys tennis (11:05), girls track (11:15) and boys track (11:30) to grab their shirts.

“We wanted to do something special for the seniors,” RTHS Athletic Booster Club President Corey Kreider said. “We wanted to honor the seniors who have lost their entire spring seasons. My daughter graduated from RTHS last year and I’ve gotten to know a lot of these student-athletes over the last few years. It’s a very good group of kids and we wanted them to have something special to help them remember their spring sports in a positive way.”

The RTHS Athletic Booster Club has helped support RTHS athletic programs for many years, using revenue from concessions and other fundraisers to purchase new uniforms, cover registration fees for student-athletes and more. Any families or parents interested in becoming booster club members can contact the RTHS athletic department or Kreider at 815-751-5555.
