RTHS Speech: Swartz, Preston are Corn Classic DDA champs

Paul Swartz and Mikayla Preston were tournament champions in Dramatic Duet Acting Saturday when the Rochelle Township High School Speech Team competed in the 2021 DeKalb Corn Classic, finishing fifth in the 20-team field.

RTHS Speech: Swartz, Preston are Corn Classic DDA champs

ROCHELLE — Paul Swartz and Mikayla Preston were tournament champions in Dramatic Duet Acting Saturday when the Rochelle Township High School Speech Team competed in the 2021 DeKalb Corn Classic, finishing fifth in the 20-team field.  

Other Rochelle Hubs earning finalist honors included: Varsity division: Preston’s third place in dramatic interpretation, Bella Nauman's fifth place and Jaela Ludwick’s sixth place in oratorical declamation.

In the next-in division, Anna Harvey took first place in special occasion speaking, Aiden Ramsey took third place in radio speaking, Jessica Nguyen took fourth place in informative speaking, Swartz and Nauman took fifth place in humorous duet acting, Ramsey took fifth place in impromptu speaking, Layla Pelan took sixth place in oratory and Ranboo Hull took seventh place in prose reading.

In the novice division, Julia Livingston took third place in extemporaneous speaking, Karma Lidren took third place in humorous interpretation and fourth place in original comedy, Sienna Seebach took fifth place in original comedy and Khalil Winston took seventh place in impromptu speaking.

The speaker of the week was Preston.  

The Speech team will be hosting a tournament on Saturday, Dec. 11.
