RTHS’s Hansen & Ludwick will perform at state

ROCHELLE — More than 10,000 auditioned from which more than 7,000 were selected for ILMEA district festivals. Just over 1,500 advanced to and will perform at the Illinois Music Educator Association State Conference. Two of those musicians are Rochelle Hubs.

Rochelle Township High School Band Director Shaun Schaefers said the ILMEA celebrates student musicians in bands, orchestras, choirs and jazz ensembles. He is proud to report that this year, RTHS will be represented by Jonathan Hansen (choir, tenor II) and Jaela Ludwick (band, clarinet).

The all-state conference is in Peoria, Jan. 26-29. Students like Hansen and Ludwick will represent the best student musicians in Illinois.

Jon and Jaela have taken virtually every course in the RTHS music catalog and they have played clarinet in the marching band where Jaela was a drum major, as members of the After Hours vocal ensemble, in various instrumental groups and as madrigal singers.

Schaefers said, “Jonathan and Jaela will rehearse in various ensembles throughout the conference, culminating in a series of concerts on Saturday, Jan. 29. Distinguished conductors/educators from across the country will direct each ensemble.”

The conference runs concurrently with the Illinois Music Education Conference, the premier professional development opportunity for Illinois music educators. More than 12,000 music educators, university music education students, parents, and music education industry vendors meet at the Peoria Civic Center to celebrate and promote music education in Illinois.
