Ruth Grover

ROCHELLE — Ruth Grover, 99, of Rochelle formerly of Malta, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30 at Liberty Village of Rochelle. 

She was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Hines, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Marquerite (Johnston) Nordeen. Ruth married William Grover on Aug. 11, 1950, at the First Lutheran Church in DeKalb. 

Ruth taught school in Minnesota for three years until she moved to DeKalb in 1945. She worked at the DeKalb Agricultural Association from 1946-1950. She was employed doing administrative duties at Essex Company and DeKalb Forge and also worked as a clerk at the Malta Post Office. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in rural Lee for 71 years where she sang in the choir and participated in Ruth Circle and CLCW. She was a member of WCTU and the Gideons Auxiliary. 

She began playing piano as a young girl. She taught piano lessons to many neighborhood children and continued playing as the church pianist at Liberty Village into her 99th year of life. 

She was a member of the DeKalb Choristers where she met her husband Bill. 

She is survived by her children, Lois (David) Miles {New Tripoli, Pennyslvania}, Nancy (Tom) Hill {Creston} and Betty (Jeffrey) Ahlgren {San Diego, California}; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 24 great grandchildren; brother, Kermit (Jo Ann) Nordeen; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Nordeen and Joanne Nordeen. 

The funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 11 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 19 Perry Road, Lee, with Pastor Martha Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Steward. 

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services at noon Friday, Nov. 11 at Calvary Lutheran Church.
