ROCHELLE — Britney Salinas earned All-Conference First Team honors for her performance with the Lady Hubs varsity softball team last season. The standout outfielder followed up with an even stronger showing this year, and her efforts were rewarded with her second straight First-Team All-Conference nod.
“My coaches have done so much for me and they’ve inspired me to work my hardest every day,” Salinas said. “My teammates pushed me and cheered me on through my highs and my lows. I don’t know where I would be today without the support of my coaches and teammates… This is such an amazing honor and I’m to be able to represent Rochelle.”
Salinas boasted a .357 batting average for Rochelle this season while leading the Lady Hubs in hits (25) and runs (12). The senior graduate slapped a team-high four doubles this season as well, and she remained solid in center field for the purple and white. Salinas will be continuing her softball career at Knox College next year.
“I feel like I improved my base running this year,” Salinas said. “I would like to continue working on my hitting… I tried to be a role model for everyone and I think I continued to keep a positive attitude with the team… The seniors before me inspired me by looking out for me when I was an underclassman and I feel that is an important concept that Rochelle athletics has.”
A four-year member of the Lady Hubs softball program, Salinas said she’s excited to continue playing the sport she loves at the next level, and she said she’s thankful for the experiences she made playing for Rochelle. Salinas played a large role in Rochelle’s five wins this season, the most for the program since 2013.
“There has never been a time that I didn’t remember playing softball and I feel it’s become a part of me,” Salinas said. “I’m glad I don’t have to let go. I can’t wait to meet new people and create new memories on and off the field… We may not be seen as the most successful sport at Rochelle but our environment is one that I will never forget.”
