ROCHELLE — On Friday afternoon, the Rochelle schools sent out a message making a change to next week’s scheduled remote learning day.
Due to a delay in vaccine shipments, school staff will not be receiving the second COVID vaccination dose as scheduled.
The following is the message sent by Superintendent Jason Harper advising of the schedule change for remote learning days.
Just this afternoon I was notified by the Ogle County Health Department (OCHD) that the shipment of vaccines that was scheduled to be used for the teachers and staff of the Rochelle Schools has not been delivered in time for the vaccination clinic that was planned for Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.
Unfortunately, the situation is beyond the control of the OCHD. We must change our plans for next week.
Changes to our plans for Monday (Feb. 22) and Tuesday (Feb. 23):
The vaccination clinic for teachers and staff on Monday, Feb. 22 is cancelled due to no available vaccines.
Because the vaccinations are cancelled, the remote learning day on Tuesday, Feb. 23 is also cancelled.
Due to this situation, Tuesday will be a normal school day following our normal schedules.
New plan for Friday (Feb. 26):
Our new vaccination clinic date for teachers and staff is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26.
Because the clinic is taking place on a Friday, there will be no remote learning day needed.
We apologize for the inconvenience this situation will have on our families. We appreciate your help in making the second round of vaccinations a success for our schools and community. Keep in mind that the schools do not control the logistics relating to vaccines so there is always the possibility of future changes to this updated plan.
We will send out another reminder closer to the date. Again, Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021 will be a normal day of school.
