ROCHELLE — More snow and bitter cold has moved into the area with dangerous wind chills, forcing several days of school cancellations recently.
Friday’s closure makes three school day cancellations for the Rochelle districts; the first in late November and also this past Wednesday.
The forecast does not bode well with expected record-setting frigid temps and snow this coming week.
For now, Rochelle Township High School’s graduation ceremony is still set for Saturday, May 25.
“Due to poor weather conditions, we cancelled our third day of school this year,” said Jason Harper, superintendent of Rochelle schools. “Both of these two cancellations will be made up at the end of the school year. All school districts must have five built in make-up days at the end of the school year so we will use them as the need arises.”
Harper encourages families to refer to the calendars on both districts’ websites when considering early summer vacation plans to see where make up days will be utilized.
“Both Rochelle school districts will continue to use various modes of communication to share news about cancellations as we have done throughout the year,” he added. “Automated calls and texts are sent out to all parents/guardians and we also incorporate Facebook and Twitter to help reach our parents and students.”
