Scouts clean up on Earth Day

Posted

ROCHELLE — Last Sunday, April 22 local scouts from Pack 553 participated in Earth Day activities at the Rochelle Wildlife Conservation Club.
The Scouts cleaned up trash and small sticks and debris along the trails. The boys also learned about nature conservation and maintaining nature’s beauty.
“The Scouts were able to take a hike and look for animals and animal tracks. It was a great opportunity for them,” Jennifer Topping, Committee Chair for Pack 553, said. “The Scouts would like to thank the Rochelle Wildlife Conservation Club for having us out and enjoying a beautiful day outside.”

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 and marked with various events to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
More on scouts
Throughout the year the Boy Scouts of America offers plenty of activities and adventures along with the opportunity to help others and build character.
Cub Scouts attend den meetings and field trips with other boys in their grade. During den meetings, they will learn many valuable skills, and experience new adventures. Enriching local summer day camps are available for all Cub Scouts.
After fifth grade, all boys are welcome to join a Boy Scout Troop. Boy Scouts learn life skills, explore careers, participate in service projects, and experience many outdoor activities.
“Our mission is to deliver to the boys and their families in the Rochelle area, the Cub Scout Program developed by the Boy Scouts of America,” said Jennifer Topping, Cub Scouts Pack 553. “We offer a high quality, family-oriented program to boys in first grade through fifth grade. Our sons advance in rank each year, beginning with Tiger Cubs First Grade and continuing through the Arrow of Light in fifth grade. We encourage our boys to continue the fun, adventure, and development of Scouting by graduating into a Boy Scout Troop. We hope each of our Scouts will continue to advance in the Scouting program, not because of the badge of rank they will earn, but because of what they will learn about themselves, their families, others, God, and their country.”
