ROCHELLE — A recent act of kindness illustrates the season of giving has extended into the new year.
The lucky winner of a $500 gift card for Big R chose to donate their good fortune to the Rochelle Child Care Center.
Big R representative Julie Young presented the gift card Wednesday to the center’s executive director, Sarah Thuestad and program director, Monica Perkins.
The anonymous donor’s kind gesture will allow the center to purchase classroom supplies and toys, including toys for the outdoors.
“I want to say thank you for the donation,” Thuestad said gratefully. “We will do the best to get the most for the center that we can. This helps.”
Big R held a 23-hour sale two days before Christmas and invited shoppers to enter to win the gift card.
“The winner requested we give the gift card to the Rochelle Child Care Center,” Young said. “They did not want the spotlight, they wanted to remain anonymous.”
The Rochelle Child Care Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to offer accredited day care, pre-school and school age programs in a safe, clean and nurturing environment staffed with loving, caring and qualified professionals. The center is licensed by the Illinois Dept. of Child and Family Services to care for children 6 weeks to 12 years.
