ROCHELLE — Guests at this year’s Hub City Senior Center’s senior prom were treated to all of the sights and sounds of a traditional Hawaiian luau and pig roast.
Over 150 guests enjoyed the festivities, which included entertainment by Steve Morris, the one-man band. Ben Dougherty also played the ukulele, another luau tradition. Upon arrival guests were given a Hawaiian-styled lei, a symbol of affection in Hawaiian culture.
Senior center executive director Connie Dougherty said the event was a huge success. With guests that wore Hawaiian shirts and the floral arrangements on the table, Teen Town was a showcase of bright colors.
“Our 14th Annual Senior Prom/Luau was an amazing success with 150 people in attendance,” Dougherty said. “Thank you so much to all who helped us, including Dr. Delfinado for the pig roast and smoked turkey. Because of the great success of the prom as well as the generous donations received, we raised approximately $5,000, which will be used for essential building repairs.”
Jim DeJaynes and Bethel Andrew were crowned as this year’s senior prom King and Queen. They joined Jack Roberts and Thora Cliffe, crowned Prince and Princess.
