ROCHELLE — Area residents spent early Friday digging out from the biggest snowstorm of the season that began late Thursday evening stretching into the morning hours.
Officially, the National Weather Service reported 5.1 inches of snow fell in Rochelle in a 24-hour period. Many area businesses were closed Friday, including city and county offices, along with schools. Roadways and interstates were slick in spots, especially secondary routes.
Illinois State Police reported several accidents and vehicles in the ditch due to the snow covered roads and icy bridges. (Photos by Lori Hammelman)
