Softball: Lady Hubs suffer shutout loss to Sycamore

Rochelle limited to two hits in 17-0 defeat
ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team opened its final week of the regular season with a 17-0 home loss to the Sycamore Spartans in Interstate 8 Conference action on Monday. Senior Maleah Pointer and sophomore Lauren Dyer each recorded singles for the Lady Hubs (5-18, 2-11 Interstate 8), who mustered only two hits in the four-inning conference loss.
Sycamore held a 7-0 lead after tallying seven runs on five singles, one hit-by-pitch and two errors from the Rochelle defense in the top of the first inning. The Spartans exploded for 10 runs on three doubles, seven singles, a fielder’s choice and three errors from the Lady Hubs in the top of the second inning. Sycamore went scoreless over the third and fourth innings, with Dyer striking out three batters over four innings from the pitcher’s circle.
