ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team succumbed to a perfect game from Ottawa pitcher McKenzie Oslanzi during Tuesday’s Interstate 8 Conference matchup at RTHS. Oslanzi threw all five innings and recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing zero hits or walks as the Lady Hubs fell 14-0 in conference action. Rochelle (5-16, 2-9 Interstate 8) will face LaSalle-Peru on the road Thursday evening before hosting Ashton-Franklin Center on Saturday morning.

Ottawa took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring five runs on two singles and a flurry of defensive errors from the Lady Hubs. The Pirates tallied two more runs in the top of the second inning before a solo home run from Oslanzi in the top of the third inning gave the Pirates an 8-0 advantage. Brynne Sember’s RBI double capped off a two-run fourth inning for Ottawa.

The Pirates sealed the win with four runs in the top of the fifth inning, where Maura Condon delivered a three-run double before scoring on an RBI groundout. Senior Morgan Smardo started in the circle for the Lady Hubs, throwing three and two-thirds innings while striking out six batters and allowing two walks. Only two of the 14 runs allowed were earned in the loss.
