ROCHELLE — The Rochelle varsity softball team hosted Streator on Thursday, with the Lady Hubs falling 17-0 in four innings to drop to 0-5 overall. Rochelle will host Stillman Valley on Friday before competing at the Belvidere quadrangular meet on Saturday.

Streator exploded out of the gate, scoring 10 runs on eight hits in the top of the first inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Senior Mandi Lamb drew a one-out walk in the bottom frame, but a line drive by senior Macy Luxton turned into a double play for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore pitcher Bella Lodico held Streator scoreless over the second and third innings to keep Rochelle in the game. Senior Becca Bunger singled to lead off the bottom of the second inning, and Lodico launched a two-out single into right field, but the Lady Hubs were unable to capitalize.

Junior Maggie Williams reached on an infield single for the Lady Hubs in the bottom of third inning before being left on base. Streator rallied for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning, totaling seven hits to take a 17-0 lead. Lodico walked in the bottom of the fourth inning, and senior Maddi O'Rorke lined a single to left to give Rochelle a chance to extend the game. But the Lady Hubs couldn't cash in once again, ending the game by mercy rule.
