ROCHELLE — While the varsity girls were busy snapping a 14-game losing streak, the Lady Hubs sophomore softball team was trying to do something it hadn’t done all season.
Behind a huge performance by Macy Luxton, who went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer, the purple and white defeated the Mendota Lady Trojans this past Saturday by a score of 9-7 to nail down their first victory of the season. Luxton scored three runs in the game, while teammate Becca Bunger also crossed home plate three times and went 3-for-4 at the dish.
Rochelle totaled 11 hits as a team, and while the girls were busy driving in runs, freshman Ally Reish was hurling the ball from the pitcher’s mound, striking out four Lady Trojan batters en route to her first win of the season for the sophomore team. The victory snaps a 10-game losing streak and improves the team’s record to 1-10 overall. The Lady Hubs will play DeKalb on Tuesday.
