PERU — Behind a stellar pitching performance by left-hander Brandon Johnson, the Hubs sophomore baseball team bumped its record up to 11-5-1 overall on Wednesday with a 3-0 road victory over the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers.
Johnson was in cruise control all game long, striking out 10 batters while walking one and giving up just one hit. Zack Bernardin led the Rochelle offense with three hits and one RBI, while Mason DeLille singled and drove in a team-high two runs.
Both teams went scoreless through the first four innings, but the Hubs broke through with one run in the top of the fifth before adding two more in the sixth to extend their lead. Johnson and teammate Louie Mancinas each went 1-for-3 at the plate to aid the RTHS offense on Wednesday.
Rochelle will continue its series with LaSalle-Peru on Thursday.
