Sponsor student in memory or in honor of veteran with RTHS Marching Band's Veteran's Wall

ROCHELLE — In a little less than six months from now, students in the Rochelle Township High School Marching Band will participate in once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in Washington, D.C.

Although several donations have been made to offset some of the costs, there is another unique way the Rochelle area community can help sponsor a student with the creation of the RTHS Marching Band Veteran’s Wall.

Ron Duval, RTHS Band Director, announced the Veteran’s Wall banner, made and donated by Chris Haas at Hub Printing, is a way to sponsor a student in memory or in honor of a veteran. The banner will be on display at the band concerts and other events throughout the 2018-2019 school year.

Duval said he thought this would be a way to make the connection for the reason the band is attending the Parade of Heroes Veterans Day celebration in November.

“The idea is one that I have seen on a much larger basis — the portable Vietnam Wall that tours throughout the U.S.,” Duval said.

The cost is $200. Anyone interested in more information on how to sponsor a student in memory/honor of a veteran, contact Duval at the high school, 815-562-4161 or through email at rduval@rthsd212.org to request a form.

Checks can be made payable to RTHS and in the memo section indicate, “DC Veteran Sponsor.” Duval requests the following information for the Wall banner: The name of the veteran as it should on the banner; the branch they are currently serving or served; the time of service; the war/conflict serving or served; the family/organization who is sponsoring and how is should appear on the banner.
