ROCHELLE — Rochelle Middle School’s gym was full of song and dance this morning as the music and choral program hosted the annual spring concert for younger students in the Rochelle Elementary School District.
An annual tradition for many years, the event is a fun way to kick off Spring Break for the students while allowing them to see what the RMS band and chorus programs are all about.
This year featured hit songs known by the younger generation, which was evident by just about every student singing along. The teachers appreciated the song and accompanying dance moves to “Thriller,” by Michael Jackson, complete with the masks.
“I’m always looking for a song of the year, something every young student can relate to,” Paul Madere, RMS Band director said. “I don’t know of one third grader that is not obsessed with Twenty-One Pilots.”
Madere said he received a request from a seventh grade band student wanting to include the Michael Jackson hit.
“The concert is a tradition and the kids all look forward to this every year,” Madere added.
