ROCHELLE — While construction wraps up on the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District’s recreation center at Helms South, workers have begun renovations at Spring Lake Pool.

Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said workers have started sandblasting the pool, diving boards and bath house as well as demolishing concrete and planting material near the concession area. Workers have started excavating and laying gravel for the new parking lot area. Ohlinger said patchwork will come next before painting can begin after the winter.

There have been 813 memberships sold for the recreation center, which Ohlinger said will open next month for early access to presale members before opening to the entire community on Dec. 1. Ohlinger said 93 percent of presale memberships were all-inclusive memberships, which grant access to all recreation center facilities as well as Spring Lake Pool, Skare Park Driving Range and the future Splashpad that will be completed in 2021.

Ohlinger said administrators will begin transitioning their offices from the current park district office, located at 735 N. 2nd St. in Rochelle, to the recreation center next week. Norwest Construction will begin preparation work for the south parking lot on Wednesday, with paving work beginning the following week. The project is expected to be completed before Dec. 1.
