St. Paul Lutheran School to hold annual dinner and auction

The event is scheduled for Friday, April 21

ROCHELLE — St. Paul Lutheran School is holding their annual dinner and auction fundraiser on Friday, Apr. 21, starting at 5 p.m. for dinner. A silent auction will be running throughout dinner, with the live auction starting at 6:30.

The primary goal of this year’s fundraiser is to raise money to help improve lighting throughout the school and entryway, purchase laptops, and replace aging technology. Currently the school’s enrollment in kindergarten through eighth grade is close to 120 students.

Fred Wren, St. Paul Lutheran School principal, said so far the school has over 100 items available for the auction, giving attendees a wide range of items to bid on.

“We have four Chicago Cubs tickets, eight rows behind home plate, White Sox tickets, an autographed guitar from ‘The Band Perry’, zoo passes, a quarter of beef,” Wren described. “One we have again from last year is a party bus trip to Rip’s. That one went over really well last year and they were gracious enough to put it back on the auction again this year.”

Tickets prices are $6 in advance and $7 at the door and include a pulled pork sandwich, sides, and a beverage.

At the end of the event, there will be a drawing for a free IPad. Although there is no purchase necessary to enter, an auction number is needed for a chance to win, and the winner must be present.

Wren said the school has been holding the dinner and auction fundraiser since 2007 and for the past few events have raised about $18,000 each year, all from the support of the community and the St. Paul families.

“The community and the local businesses have been very supportive, always willing to step in,” Wren said. “We have the extended St. Paul family of friends of parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents — we definitely get a good deal of support outside of just the school and the church.”

Adding, “We are so thankful for all of them, all of the help and assistance of this community.”

Those interested in donating items for the event are asked to contact the school office at 815-562-6323. A list of items available for auction or more information on the event can be found at www.stpaulrochelle.org/events/auction.
