ROCHELLE — A Rochelle man was involved in a five-vehicle accident that resulted in a fatality late Monday evening on Interstate 88 near Roosevelt Road in Cook County, an Illinois State Police press release said.

At approximately 10:54 p.m. a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Darius M. Lemon, 29, of Naperville, was disabled in the left lane on Interstate 88 westbound at milepost 139.25. A 2006 black Chevrolet, driven by Dion T. Skinner, 24, of Wheaton was parked behind the Jeep with hazard lights activated and Skinner exited his vehicle and assisted the Jeep onto the left shoulder.

A 2017 Volkswagen Golf driven by Zoey F. Clayton-Lang, 22, of Naperville pulled onto the shoulder behind Skinner’s vehicle to avoid a collision. A 2007 black Honda Accord driven by Keanon S. Voss, 18, of Rochelle then approached all three vehicles at a high rate of speed and struck Lemon, who was outside of his vehicle, the press release said.

The Honda Accord driven by Voss then struck all three vehicles and Skinner, who was outside of his vehicle as well. Skinner was then struck again by a 2005 silver Toyota Highlander driven by Latasha Motley, 24, of Chicago.

Skinner suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lemon was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Voss, Clayton-Lang and Motley reported no injuries at the scene.

The information in the press release was listed as preliminary and no further information was available. No charges have been made pending an investigation.
