ROCHELLE — Stephanie Ann Gillis, 48, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sept. 3, after battling Sarcoidosis for over 28 years.

Stephanie was born on Dec. 30, 1972 in DeKalb to Stephen and Rebecca (Olson) Gillis. She graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1991, where she had a huge passion for music and enjoyed being part of RTHS’ Choir, local vocals, madrigals (queen 1991) and placed first (solo) in state vocal competition. She also enjoyed performing in flag corps with the RTHS Marching band as well as cheerleading where she competed in nationals.

She also attended Kishwaukee College, where she enjoyed cheerleading for the Cougars basketball team. During college, Stephanie worked as an aerobics instructor at Hickory Grove and after college she worked at Eaton, as well as a sales associate at Brooks and Yonkers. 

She finished her career at Walgreens, where she was a senior pharmacy tech for over 16 years. She loved the Lord and reading her Bible and would study it often. She was very holistic and enjoyed attending Christian concerts with family and friends. She loved her niece and nephews dearly and was very proud of her Norwegian and family heritage.

Stephanie was survived by her mother, Rebecca Anderson of Rockford; step-mother, Pamela Johnson Gillis of Crossville, Tennessee; one sister, Jennifer (Matt) Van Ostrand of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and nephews, Aiden and Asher; one brother, David (Dawn) Gillis of Rockford and nephew, Matthew, and niece, Annette; aunts and uncles, Mark Gillis, Mary Jo (Marvin) Metzger and Mark (Linda) Olson as well as her wonderful former neighbor and close friends Heather and Jayson Newlin and family.

She is preceded in death by her father, Stephen Gillis.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 10 from 1-2 p.m. at Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home, 704 N. 6th Street Rochelle, IL 61068.
