Storm leaves several areas of town under water

ROCHELLE — Friday night's thunderstorm left many areas of town under water and many streets closed due to flooding and standing water on roadways.

The City of Rochelle Street Department was out early this morning closing roads — including Caron Road near School Avenue to First Avenue, streets in the neighborhood behind the First Presbyterian Church (E. McConaughy Avenue, Parkview Drive, Seventh Avenue, Carlisle Drive and School Avenue near May School).

Flooding in that area, including most of the First Presbyterian Church parking lot, has caused some vehicles to be left under water and the bike path running along that area under IL Route 38 completely under water.

The City of Rochelle is asking for volunteers this morning to help fill sandbags for residents who need them. They will begin filling sandbags in the old Lincoln School parking lot at Washington Street and First Avenue at 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

Motorists are reminded to not drive through flood water or go around barricades.

Power outages

Heavy rain and flooding wasn't the only problem Friday night, as many Rochelle Municipal Utility customers were without power for some time.

"We had scattered outage affecting small areas all over town. The biggest outage was losing transformer 1 and 2 which would have meant feeders 12, 13, 21 and 22 were down," Street department Tim Isley said Saturday morning. "That outage was corrected within 15 minutes. This affected about 3,700 customers."
