ROCHELLE — Mix a little University of Illinois Extension & Rochelle Hub Project you get an Illinois Junior Chef!
Illinois Junior Chefs is University of Illinois Extension’s cooking school curriculum for youth ages 8-13. This is a fun, engaging program that allows youth to learn about nutrition, try new healthful recipes, and gain kitchen skills. Classes are offered during summer and included curricula is Food Safety, Measuring, and MyPlate, Choose Whole Grains, I’ll Eat These Veggies, Fantastic Fruits, Go Lean with Protein and Calcium-Rich Foods.
The 9-year-old Hub Project group learns a new skill on “how to grate” vegetables. The first week was completed and the second week we engaged the 11 year old group as they mastered knife skills. The INEP (Illinois Nutrition Education Programs) staff who present the program were Mary Beth Christen, Caroline Collins, Sherry Gaiser and Natalie Husemann.
