ROCHELLE — Seniors at Rochelle Township High School had an opportunity to speak with representatives from nearly 20 area businesses and organizations at the annual Career Expo.

The event was held in the gymnasium early Friday and included colleges, trade schools, and the military. Andrea O’Reilly, Career Coordinator for RTHS, said the expo helps students connect with several local employers.

“This event helps to show our students some of the options they have locally. It also gives them an opportunity to practice soft skills…meeting and greeting employers and representatives and initiating conversations,” O’Reilly said. “We have a diverse group of companies and organizations here today. Students can discuss internships and job shadowing.”

Several students learned of the reciprocal agreement between Kishwaukee College and Rock Valley College, allowing for in-district rates offered. Others discussed seasonal jobs available through the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District, while others sought options available through the various branches of the military represented.

Casey Wyss, Plant Engineer, along with Elizabeth Dean, Human Resources Coordinator, attended the expo representing Rochelle Foods.

“Rochelle Foods is a big part in the community. Some students might have parents that work with us,” Wyss said. “We are here today to talk to interested students, let them know we are in their community, and that there are also career paths from a management standpoint as well.”
