Students taking off with STEM

ROCHELLE — Students in the Summer HUB Project on Monday morning dabbled with STEM projects during the enrichment hour.
Projects were flying through classrooms as the students had fun learning, building and growing. Third grade students worked to stack cups and build towers with plastic cups only using string and a rubber band. The rubber band would wrap around the cup and the students had to pull the string to manipulate the cup and place it where they wanted it.
The project forced students to problem solve, work collaboratively and think outside of the box. After the group completed one task they were given another mission to try and complete. The Monday stacking challenge will lead to a variety of activities and lessons in STEM through the week.

Across the hall, middle school students worked with paper, tape and straws to create gliders. They were challenged with the task of hooking paper cylinders to the straw to create a glider that would sail through the air.
Students were taking off in another classroom building rockets with Lincoln School principal Adam Zurko. After building the rockets on Monday, the small group of elementary students had the opportunity to launch their projects on Tuesday.
Testing buoyancy another small group of students crafted boats to see what designs and materials would stay afloat.
