Summer brings great opportunities at park district

Since school is out for the summer, it is time to figure out how we will keep the kids and ourselves busy.  I have some ideas for you.
First, Spring Lake Pool is open, warm and inviting. Individual day passes are $6, individual season passes are $65, and a family pass is only $180. We have added the family season pass to make it more affordable for the entire family to enjoy the pool.  A family of five would need to go to the pool just six times and it would pay for itself.  We have 86 pool days in the season, so you should be able to get your money’s worth.
The pool hours are Monday through Thursday from 12:30 – 5:30 p.m., Friday 12:30-7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. In addition, did you know you could rent out Spring Lake Pool for private parties and events on Saturday and Sunday evenings? What a perfect place to hold your summer parties.
We also have some fantastic swim instructors and have openings in most levels of swim lessons. We also have a few slots open for the swim team, the Rochelle Rays.  This is unusual, as often there is a waiting list to be on the team. We have called coach Marianne Swanson out of retirement to coach the swim team this year. If you want to learn from the best, come join the Rochelle Rays Swim Team.
Second, Summer Day Camp started yesterday, June 5, and will continue for 10 weeks. You can send your child to camp for a day, a week or the entire 10 weeks. The daily rate is $26 and the weekly rate is $110. We have expanded our hours this year. The day camp is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and we have an option for an additional hour, extending pickup time to 5:30 p.m. if that is easier for your schedule.

The campers will receive a camp T-shirt, lunch and a snack. There are also field trips, themed weeks (such as sports, crafts, team building, etc.) and daily swimming trips to Spring Lake Pool. This is all included in your fee and we promise your kids will beg to return next year.  Call the park district office to select your dates and give your current daycare a vacation.
Third, Fairways Golf Course has been open for business for a while. The course looks great, the weather seems to be turning, there are plenty of golf specials, some leagues and the restaurant is open for business. In addition, you can go to the driving range at Skare Park West and brush up on your golf drives.
If you are unable to hit a golf ball, can you throw a Frisbee? If so, we offer a disc golf course at Skare Park East. Here, your abilities will be on display throughout the trees and brush.
Finally, we have our individual programs for all ages. We have opportunities for you to learn and/or participate in archery, karate, tumbling, cheerleading, soccer, tennis, speed and agility training, kickboxing, softball, basketball, golf lessons, disc golf, sand volleyball, guitar and ukulele lessons, horseback riding and pickleball. There will be no shortage of recreational opportunities within the park district boundaries.

Roger Bunger is the executive director of the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District.
