Support Creston library campaign

CRESTON — The Creston-Dement Public Library will be participating in Giving Tuesday on Dec. 1 in order to raise much needed funds for a new library.

“This is the first year that we’ve done this,” library director Kristi Scherer said. “The library was donated 2 acres of land for a new library.”

The library is starting a Capital Campaign to raise funds to build the new library.

“We will receive funds from the Illinois State Construction Grant for $728,000 as long as we have matching funds,” Scherer said. “We have until June of 2021 to do this.”

Scherer said the campaign will kick-off on Tuesday and will be on-going. Individuals and businesses can make donations by check, credit card or cash.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: A day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

“Anyone with questions or wanting more information about the campaign can contact the library,” Scherer said.
