Supports breeder moving business into Ogle County

Posted

Dear Editor,
I recently read a Letter to the Editor that shocked and appalled me about a “puppy mill.”
First of all, allow me to sprinkle kindness like confetti and send accolades to Liz DeArvil for the homework she clearly has done on puppy mills. I am an educated professional who has donated valuable time to support a particular rescue of a small breed dog. I, too, have done my puppy mill homework. I am very aware of the atrocities that many “backyard breeders” often exhibit. Those situations are abhorrent, at the very least.
Secondly, allow me to also share that I am one of hundreds who purchased a princess of a pup from the breeder that this expository text is shaming and defaming. Because I’m “computer literate,” I did quite a bit of research before I went for a visit. Within minutes, I discovered that the website, the Facebook page and the lovely testaments were absolutely warranted. Warmth, empathy, and passion for puppies was (and continues to be) evident. In fact, I was so impressed that, after retiring a few months later, I wanted to spend a few hours working there.

Consequently, although I no longer spend time there, I can state first-hand that these caring individuals run a transparent and legitimate business. Their puppies will not be allowed to leave, unless with a responsible and loving owner. They are housed in a super clean, well-ventilated environment with lots of high-quality food. They only use bottled water in their kennels, as well. They visit their veterinarian regularly and they are loved on by the people who choose to work there. I happen to know that this breeder would never dishonor her integrity by taking advantage of and ripping off a potential puppy owner.
I absolutely will be present at the next Ogle County Board meeting. I would much prefer to see folks being “educated,” as opposed to being “enlightened” about this small business owner. You see, I believe that it is unfortunate that, due to a lack of “puppy mill education,” some folks have decided to put forth a great deal of negative energy in pursuing an unfounded witch hunt.
One more thing — it’s not about “calling it what I want.” It’s about not calling it a puppy mill, because it isn’t.
