SYCAMORE — The Rochelle varsity wrestling team held a 31-14 lead over the Sycamore Spartans on Friday, but four straight victories by the black and gold to end the match prevented Rochelle from obtaining the road win.
Sycamore jumped ahead 7-0 to start the match after Chad Schap won by 3-0 decision over Rochelle sophomore Keegan Davis at 126 pounds and William Delmer defeated Hub senior Andy Silva by 13-4 major decision at 132 pounds. Senior Justin Hernandez beat Isaias Oviedo by 11-3 major decision at 138 pounds to put Rochelle on the board.
James Cerny topped Rochelle sophomore Zeke Horn by 9-1 major decision at 145 pounds, but a 12-3 major decision by Hub junior Eddie Villalobos over Colton Berg at 152 pounds and a forfeit to Rochelle senior Ehren Metzger at 160 pounds gave the Hubs a 14-11 advantage.
Freshman Ben Harvey defeated Bryson Plueger at 170 pounds by 16-1 technical fall, and sophomore Bryan Garza took a forfeit at 182 pounds before Nicholas Salsberry edged Hub senior Austin Tracey by 14-8 decision at 195 pounds.
Senior Alex Harvey won by fall over Matthew Hunter at 220 pounds, but Sycamore bounced back when Joey Beaudoin pinned Hub sophomore Charlie Jandak at 285 pounds. The Spartans earned forfeits at 106 and 113 before Justin Montani pinned Rochelle freshman Grant Thompson at 120 pounds to end the match. The Hubs move to 11-11 on the season.
