ROCHELLE — Tammy F. Svela, 57, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2019, at the Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, surrounded by her loving family after a five year battle with stage four breast cancer.
Tammy was born Feb. 2, 1962 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles and Patricia (Carter) Mann. She married DeWaine “DJ” Svela on Feb. 16, 1986 in Maui, Hawaii.
Tammy was born in Kentucky but was raised and grew up in Rochelle. She worked at numerous businesses in and around Rochelle, including Hayes Drug Store, Maplehurst Farms, St. Paul Lutheran School and Roy’s Transfer. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Tammy was an avid bowler and was a member of the Rochelle Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her cheesecake.
She loved her family, especially her grandsons. Tammy treasured her time with her dear friends. She was generous, fun-loving, and could always be found with a positive attitude. She always put the well being of others above herself.
Tammy is survived by her husband, DJ; two sons, Jason (Courtney) Svela and Brandon (fiancee Marissa Haley) Svela; three grandsons, Cayson, Rylan, and Brayden Svela; siblings, Dwayne (Marcie) Mann of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Debbie (Bill) Mitchell of Sturgis, Kentucky; brother-in-law, Rodney (Charlene) Svela of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law, Linette (Michael) Feltes of Rochelle; nieces, Emily (fiancé Alex Bueno) Feltes Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jenna Feltes; and several other nieces and nephews.
Tammy is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Patricia Mann.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Nancy Williams, Dr. Fauzia Khattak and the staff at SwedishAmerican Cancer Center, and the staff at Serenity Hospice and Home.  
Cremation care has been provided. Memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 22 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle.
A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23 at the funeral home with Pastor Gregory Hoffmann officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tammy’s memory may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran School or Serenity Hospice and Home.
