CHICAGO -— A community theater veteran, Mackenzie Mercer, auditioned for and won the role of Cindy Lou in the Broadway Touring Company production of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” which is at the Chicago Theater through Nov. 25.

Among the audience members will be Mercer’s cousin, Alison Vrana, a teacher at Rochelle Township High School.

Cindy Lou Who is a sweet young girl from Dr. Seuss’ storybook “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

In the book, Cindy Lou Who is a two-year-old girl who lives in Whoville and plays a minor role, but in the Broadway musical, she has four siblings: Boo Who, Danny Who, Betty Lou Who and Annie Who. Cindy Lou first appears in It’s the Thought, Who Likes Christmas, I hate Christmas Eve, and Whatchamo.

Cindy Lou is clearly different from the other children (all dressed in red and white). She wears a pink gown. On Christmas Eve, she wakes up to meet the Grinch and with him sings, Santa For A Day with him.
