The Kitchen Table: Not just for the homeless

The Kitchen Table community food place situated in the old Klondike Restaurant west of Rochelle sends out a message — they’re feeding everyone, not just the homeless.
It’s a place where anyone, regardless of income (or none) can go twice a week and a monthly Sunday brunch and receive a healthy meal regardless of the patron’s ability to pay, no questions asked. There is a flat fee for whatever is served and that includes the main course, drink and dessert. A bill is presented and if there are no resources to pay the check, it is returned to the server with a “thank you.”
But, more and more diners are not only paying their check, they’re leaving additional dollars and cents to help pay the eating costs who are less fortunate. A board member recently said that about 99 percent of patrons are paying.

The Kitchen Table has been the recipient of some charitable donations from Tyson Foods, Rochelle Community Hospital, and Bright Farms, among others.
One notable contribution from Holcomb State Bank was the walk-in refrigerator, booths, and tables and chairs from the now-closed Burger King in Byron, and a donation of food from the Naperville Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.
Ongoing generosity toward the Kitchen Table has been remarkable and Grant and Carolyn Brown, Directors of the Kitchen, are pleased with the success to date of the venture.
Anyone wishing to volunteer or seeking -additional information can check out the organization’s Facebook page or call 815-561-9074. It’s located at 7034 Klondike Road, three miles west of Rochelle.
