ROCHELLE — The Vince Carney Community Theatre invites the community to kick off the holiday season with their presentation of “Miracle on 34th Street: A Radio Play,” on Saturday, Dec. 1.
The Winter Gala fundraising event will be held at Salt 251 restaurant in Rochelle at the Fairways Golf Course, starting at 5 p.m., and features cocktails, a four-course meal and a silent auction.
The cast has been diligently rehearsing and several items are still coming in for the silent auction. Among those available in the silent auction: A week in Orlando, Florida at a three bedroom villa with fully equipped kitchen and can sleep up to 12 people; Whoopi Goldberg’s signed script from Star Trek the Next Generation; and a spa-type package that includes massage, Reiki, fitness center membership and chocolates to boot.
Director Kimberly Ekes explained the VCCT crew expanded on the previous two years of radio plays to include the silent auction for this year’s event; bidding will be before the dinner and during intermission. The winners will be announced after the show.
Ekes previously directed the live radio plays for the last two Winter dinner productions.
“I love the radio shows as a way to transport the audience back to the golden age of live radio when it was the main means of communication, information and entertainment … where people were excited to listen to their favorite shows, and maybe go be a part of the live studio audience while their favorite programs were being recorded,” Ekes said. “Most importantly, I hope to get the community involved and excited to help Vince Carney Community Theatre with the renovation of the old Lincoln School. We hope to create a new theater venue for the entire community to enjoy and will need the entire community’s support with this major project.”
Adding, “The cast has done an amazing job pulling the show together and helping out in such a short rehearsal period.”
Food
Guests will enjoy a four-course meal of Mrs. Klaus’ favorite cream of potato soup, Kris Kringle salad, and for the main course there will be a choice of Frosty’s white fish, Santa’s favorite main dish of pork loin or Rudolph’s vegetarian plate. Various chocolates, cheesecakes, cookies and more will be on the menu for dessert.
Tickets are $75 each and are available on the VCCT website vcctrochelle.org and must be purchased no later than midnight on Nov. 25.
