ROCKFORD — Verla Reints Sterett, 76, of Rockford, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at her home. She was born Nov. 26, 1941, in Beloit, Wis., daughter of Eugene Howard and Lorraine H. Poliska Bain.
She was married to Harold Ward Sterett on Dec. 31, 1997 in Reno, Nev., until his death on Dec. 31, 2017. She retired after many years from Sundstrand-UTC, in the administrative offices and then worked for Rockford Chamber of Commerce.
She was a member and past president of Alpine Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Parks Kiwanis club. She served as Past Lt. Governor of the Illinois-Eastern Iowa District, Division 12 of Kiwanis International.
Always volunteering, Verla is fondly remembered for her love of helping others and her lifelong passion for the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls.
She was a loving and supportive mother to her sons, Steven Reints of Baton Rouge, La., and Timothy (Donica) Reints of Kings. Other survivors include her sister, Jeannene Adams of Lindenwood; stepsons H. Ward (Patricia) Sterett of Roscoe, and Steven (Terrie) Sterett of Green Lake, Wis.; grandchildren, Dustin (Christine), Cody (Angela), Noel (Elise), Emily (Jeffrey), Alexander, and John; 10 great-grandchildren; and her former husband, William Reints of Kings.
She was predeceased by her brother, Jim, and her parents.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17 with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at the Lindenwood Union Church, Lindenwood, located at Galena and N. Walnut St.
Visitation and Celebration of her life will be at Julian-Poorman-Welte, 304 N. 5th St. in Rockford from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16.
