STRAWBERRY, Ark. — Verlon David Holt, 85 of Strawberry, Ark., passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
He was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Cherry Valley, Ark., to Lonnie Layton and Sellia Jane (Williams) Holt.
Verlon worked for Nehring Engineering in DeKalb for many years before going to work for Swift-Eckrich in Rochelle. At the closing of Swift, he and his family moved to Arkansas where he became a TV and appliance repairman in Walnut Ridge.
He was always hard working with the highest integrity. After retirement, Verlon loved gardening, experimenting and nurturing seeds into plants, flowers and generally growing things in dirt! He was always inquisitive, reading and enjoying learning new things. He was kind, honest and just the best of men, loving his family and friends well.
He was quiet, but mighty, serving God always. He has certainly made it to heaven’s glory land to hear “well done my child.” He was loved by all and will be missed every day until we see him again.
Verlon was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Vernest Holt; three sisters, Joy Fay DuBois, LonEll Holt and Artivee Holt.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Clara Smith Holt; two sons, Gary (Janet) Holt of Lakewood Ranch, Fla. and Jeff (Kisty) Holt of Strawberry; one daughter, Donna Holt, of Jonesboro, Ark.; one sister, Lois Garner, of Hardy, Ark.; three grandchildren, Daniel Johnson, Ashley Pretty and Amber Hobbs; several great-grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Matlock Road Church of God in Cave City, Ark. on Sunday, May 9. Burial will occur at a later date at Trinity Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Matlock Road Church of God; 519 Barbara Street, Cave City, AR 72521.
