ROCHELLE – Celebrate Veterans Day at the Flagg Township Museum on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special program – Rochelle’s Soldiers – will be presented at 1 p.m. The program includes information about Civil War soldiers in Company A from Rochelle and stories about soldiers who were from Rochelle and served in other conflicts. Light refreshments will be available.
Special items on exhibit include letters and artifacts recently received from the descendants of James Dawson, Civil War veteran from Rochelle. In addition, the Salute to “Butch” Halsne poster made by the late Tyler Smith that is on loan to the museum will be on display. Comprehensive lists of veterans buried in St. Patrick’s Cemetery and Trinity Memory Gardens, compiled by Lydia Roberts of the Rochelle DAR, will also be available. Veterans and families of veterans are encouraged to attend to share their stories. Biographical forms and suggested questions used by the Veterans History Project are available for sharing memories.
The mission of the Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum is to stimulate interest in Flagg Township history through education, research, collection and preservation of information for the benefit of the public of today and in the future.
