VFW serving up Thanksgiving meal

Posted

ROCHELLE – Rochelle VFW Post 3878 is once again helping those in need of a Thanksgiving dinner this upcoming holiday.
For more than 50 years post members have been serving members of the community who either need a place to go for Thanksgiving or have no way of making one for themselves or their family at home. Dinner will be served at the VFW from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thanksgiving day or people can sign up to have the dinner delivered to their home.
The meals will include all of the aspects of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
“We do turkey and ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable, stuffing, dinner rolls and then a dessert,” explained Wilma Adamski, VFW club manager.
The VFW serves more than 200 guests each year with the majority being deliveries.

There is no cost to anyone for dinner — the VFW just asks that the people who want their meal delivered to them, please call and provide their name, phone number and address to them by the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
All of the food for the meals is provided by the City of Rochelle and organizations within the community.
“The City of Rochelle has been very gracious donating us money to buy turkeys with and Kim Montgomery from the Rochelle Area Community Foundation has been very helpful,” said Adamski.
While the dinners are provided to anyone in need for free, the Rochelle VFW Post 3878 is always accepting donations of any amount. Donations can be made at the VFW post, 318 4th Ave. in Rochelle.
