We made it through January.
I was truly hoping at the beginning of the month that we would get through January without much snow, ice and frigid temperatures. Whew. That definitely wasn’t the case. In the more than 17 years that I have been director of the senior center we have never had to close our doors for bad weather as often as we have this month. We had lots of snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures. I hope February is much better and I’m sure you do too. Groundhog’s Day is upon us which can only mean one of two things: We either have six more weeks of winter or a month and a half. Either way, we’re going to make it. I’m just sure of it.
Saturday, Feb. 2 is not only Groundhog’s Day, it’s also From the Heart. From the Heart is a gala event that raises money for eight nonprofit organizations in Rochelle including the Hub City Senior Center. Last year we received $6,000. It is so heartwarming to see our community come together to support such wonderful organizations. It’s a lot of fun as well.
We will be serving biscuits and gravy on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 a.m. All are welcome to join us. If you want a carryout, call us and we’ll get it ready for you. You can even pick it up in the alley if you want.
Remember, we play pool at the senior center every day, we also play Yahtzee, as well as Euchre most every afternoon. We have Bingo every Tuesday and Thursday, woodworkers on Wednesday afternoons, and Friendship Quilters on Thursday afternoon. We have something for everyone. Is there is something you would enjoy doing at the center that we don’t currently do, give us a call. We are always open for new ideas.
Remember to tune in to WRHL 1060 on your radio dial. They announce our menu and activities each weekday. They also will let you know if we have to close due to the weather.
We have a nice crowd of people that come to the center every day, but we always have room for more. Please join us.
