BYRON — Violet Ruth Honeg, 92, formerly of Rochelle, peacefully joined our Lord, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 in Byron. Violet was born on Dec. 28, 1925 to Walter D. and Beulah M. (Munts) Hodgkins in Millbrook Township.
She married Joseph F. Honeg on Nov. 3, 1947 in Gladstone. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked as a radio dispatcher for river barges in Peoria. She was a former member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in East Peoria, and most recently of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle.
Violet enjoyed Bible study, reading, crossword puzzles, and visiting with friends and family, especially her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sister, Ellen Prince; and two brothers, Walter Lee and Gerald.
Violet is survived by her five daughters, Marcia Schrage of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Rhonda (Robert) Schmitt of Belleville, New Jersey, Sheryl (Danny) Evans of Georgetown, Texas, Janet Roberts of Sugarland, Texas and Jeri (Michael) Wethington of Stillman Valley; 10 grandchildren, Jan Paul (Melisa) Schrage, Daniel (Ann) Schrage, Melinda (Jana) Schmitt, Michael (Shannon) Schmitt, Emily and Eric Schmitt, Kasey (Ashley) Dillard, Cody Roberts, Cori (John) Lamberson, and Amy Wethington; and eight great-grandchildren, Jackson and Mark Schrage, Charles, Lucas and Benjamin Schmitt, Mary Bright, Shepard and Sutton Dillard.
Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle. Inurnment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin in the spring.
