The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team saw three players receive All-Conference recognition from the Interstate 8 this season. Senior Clare Green and junior Sylvia Hasz were First-Team honorees, while senior Afi Gati took home an Honorable Mention.
Green spent four seasons with the varsity team, recording a team-high 347 assists while ranking second on the Lady Hubs with 81 digs this season. Green, who surpassed 1,400 career assists with the Rochelle volleyball team, had been an All-Conference Honorable Mention in each of the previous two seasons. Green will be competing at Cornell College next year.
“I’m very proud to have earned this award and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Green said. “It’s nice to know my hard work didn’t go unnoticed. I thought I made smart set choices and showed leadership this season. I thought we communicated well as a team and I thought I improved most in setting the best balls I could and in blocking more shots.”
Now a two-time Interstate 8 First-Team honoree, Hasz led Rochelle with 239 kills this season. An outside hitter for the Lady Hubs, Hasz also stepped up in the back row, leading the team with 98 digs. Hasz will be a leading returner for the Rochelle varsity team next season.
“I’m so happy to be recognized with this award,” Hasz said. “I’ve been putting a lot of work in so it’s nice to see that work pay off. I thought I varied my shots well and hit the ball where the defenders wouldn’t expect me to hit it. I also improved my serve receives, which helped give Clare better passes to run our offense.”
