Two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention becoming vocal leader for Lady Hubs

Clare Green began her varsity volleyball career at Rochelle Township High School as the only freshman on the team. When the two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention setter returns to the Lady Hubs this fall, she’ll be the only four-year varsity player on the court.

After compiling nearly 500 assists for Rochelle this past season, Green will once again look to pace the Lady Hub offense at the starting setter position. While she mainly set over her first two years with the team, Green showed her versatility this past fall, spending time on the right side as well as the back row. Green will look to anchor a Lady Hub lineup that will feature several new starters after the program graduated a handful of talented senior players.

“I felt like I improved a whole lot last season,” Green said. “Coach [Molly] Sly really helped me become more of a leader for the team. I felt like I ran our offense well. I need to improve on my serve-receives and mixing up my hitters so I can run more plays from different spots on the court. I want to continue improving on calling out plays for my hitters and playing with pace.”

Green and the Lady Hubs will seek to follow up a record-setting season that resulted in 21 victories and a runner-up finish in the IHSA 3A Rochelle Regional. Another winning season will be on Green’s radar this fall, and limiting service errors will be paramount for the Lady Hubs to continue their recent success. After placing second at regionals two years in a row, Green and the Lady Hubs will attempt to bring home Rochelle’s first regional championship since 1995.

“We had an amazing season last year,” Green said. “I can’t think of a match where we didn’t give our best effort and I’m proud of that. My expectations for us this year are to work harder than we did last year and to never let another team outwork us. We really supported each other last year and we ran a fast offense, but I think we can improve on our serve-receives.”
