SANDWICH — The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity volleyball team won its second straight match Thursday evening, defeating Sandwich 28-26, 25-21 and improving to 2-4 on the season.

Senior Clare Green and junior Sylvia Hasz paced the Rochelle offense, with Green recording 25 assists and Hasz totaling 16 kills. Sophomore Addie Friestad collected seven kills and senior Alexis Sanford compiled eight digs for the Lady Hubs, who will face Rock Falls this weekend before hosting Sycamore on Tuesday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m.

"We came back after we fell down in the first set and we fought through," coach Lindsay Suess said. "It was a great team effort. Sylvia and Addie were great on the outside, while our middles were able to get going as well. We had good digs from our back row."

Sandwich opened the first set with the early advantage, pulling ahead 10-7 before Rochelle tied the match with a brief 4-1 run. The Indians led by as many as five points in the first set, but with the Lady Hubs trailing 23-18, Rochelle rallied to even the match once again, tying the set at 24-24 and ultimately finishing the set on a 10-3 run to take the 1-0 match lead.

With renewed confidence, Rochelle started the second set strong, building an 11-5 run and forcing Sandwich to call a timeout. The Indians remained within striking distance, however, bringing the Lady Hubs within two points and making Rochelle call a timeout of its own to stop the momentum. Winning 19-17 after the timeout, Rochelle went 6-4 over the final 10 points, with Hasz firing the match-winning kill shot for the Lady Hubs.
