PLANO — Junior Clare Green and her Lady Hub teammates knew they didn’t perform their best during nonconference action against Earlville on Monday. But the Rochelle volleyball team was motivated to bounce back at Plano on Tuesday, and the girls successfully recovered with a two-set victory over the Reapers.
Rochelle controlled the opening set before holding Plano off in the second set to win 25-15, 25-18 against the Reapers. The Lady Hubs improved to 14-9 overall with the victory. Senior Katie Van Hise led Rochelle with eight kills, while Green recorded 14 assists and sophomore Sylvia Hasz finished with eight digs.
“We knew we weren’t playing Rochelle volleyball and we shouldn’t ever play like that again,” Green said. “We need to give 100 percent effort from here on out. We were definitely able to pass the ball better and keep the momentum on our side of the court against Plano... Even when we lost a point, we need to be able to come together and get the next point.”
The Lady Hubs went three sets against Earlville on Monday, splitting the first two sets before droping the tiebreaker to fall 18-25, 25-19, 23-25. Hasz and Van Hise combined for 14 kills in the loss, with Hasz and junior Ellie Kinn each recording 10 digs. Hasz led Rochelle with five aces in the match.
“We knew we didn’t play as well as we could have,” Hasz said. “We were really slow and we weren’t moving very quickly. That motivated us to step up and perform on Tuesday. We were moving our feet more against Plano, and we were talking more. We need to come into every game knowing we can’t let up.”
