I hope you had a chance to enjoy the beautiful fall weather we had between 3 and 6 p.m. Thursday.

Weather forecasts had us in the 70s, but I did not expect the temperature to reach that based on the cooler temperatures all morning.

Suddenly the clouds parted and for a few hours we had beautiful weather.

I used the time to clean up my veggie garden, a friend used it to move in patio furniture, and I saw several people at the car wash.

By the time you read this, that time slot will be a distant memory and we will be dealing with cooler temps. 

So,to recap the week: Cold, rain, snow flurries, 40s, torrential rain and thunderstorms, 75 and sunny, 40s. As the old saying goes, “Don’t like Illinois weather? Stick around an hour, it will change.”

I took a time out at Lake Sule this week. I brought a cup of coffee along and sat in my car watching the water. Nobody else was there, just me.

I was amazed at the traffic on Interstate 39. In a three minute period, (yes, I timed it) I counted 25 cars and 17 trucks headed south on Interstate 39. Forty-two vehicles in three minutes, or roughly one about every 4 seconds.  

Northbound was just as busy. I guess that explains why there are two new travel plazas in town.

It seems strange to pass Hickory Grove and not see lights on at night. I am involved in Vince Carney Community Theater and we staged many shows, ate many meals, and had a few beers there over the years.

In my humble opinion, it was a poorly designed complex from the beginning, but it is still sad to see it go.

Many remember ‘Dave Major and the Minors’ at the Vagabond during the 70s. They were a popular group and always seemed to pack the place.

But what you may not know is the leader, Dave Perry, was involved in a double murder in DeKalb County in 2000. He killed his ex-wife’s new husband and her mother and was killed in a shoot-out with DeKalb County deputies.

I have some friends recently diagnosed with COVID-19.  Luckily, I have not been in direct personal contact with them for several weeks.

Remember: Wear a mask. Wash hands. Keep your distance. Sanitize surfaces. Stay home if you are sick.
