ROCHELLE — The Winter One Acts at Rochelle Township High School are almost here.
The community is welcome to attend the student-written-directed-acted 2018 performances will be live and on-stage this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17. Curtain is at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5; Student and teacher tickets are $2.
Playwright and RTHS student Allica Price Wellington talks about her piece, “That Crazy Dog,” using the “father-in-law hates fiancé” scenario, interjecting a bit of humor.
“Dark humor … The main plot of it is the father-in-law (Daniel Senne, who also helped with writing) is subtly trying to kill his daughter’s (Ariel Zuercher) fiancé (David Gonzalez),” Wellington explained. “The act also features Jennifer Heinrich and Jaela Ludwick. The name of the act is misleading, but you find out why ‘That Crazy Dog’ is the title at the end.”
The student playwright says the audience will have the opportunity to view creative and unique skits — funny and serious.
“They’ll also see what us students are capable of on our own … well, mostly on our own. Of course we still need, thank, and love Mrs. Creuziger,” Wellington exclaimed. “Without her we wouldn’t have this opportunity. We also wouldn’t have a show without the audience … after the work many students put into this, an audience would encourage us to continue what we do in drama.”
Wellington encourages students to join drama.
“It’s filled with so many different and great people, with so many different talents, and everyone comes together to put their all into one shared goal — to put on a great show for the audience. No matter who you are, I’m sure there is some place in drama for you, and the experience is amazing,” she said. “If you’re a high school student or going to be one, I encourage you to try it.”
