Wrestling Club: Local athletes grapple at Providence Catholic Freestyle Developmental tournament

Voight, Hobson take home first-place finishes

NEW LENOX — The Forge Wrestling Club sent six athletes to the 2023 Providence Catholic Freestyle Developmental tournament on Saturday. Two athletes brought home first-place finishes, while two others secured second-place finishes in the wrestling tournament.

Brenden Voight finished first in the 16U Cadets 145-151 Division with a 3-0 record. Voight earned three consecutive tech falls against Rockford WV’s Raymond Delagarza (10-0), Sandwich’s Kai Kern (23-10) and Beat the Streets wrestler Van Grasser (10-0) for the title.

Ashton Hobson finished first in the 16U Cadets 141-143 Division with a 2-0 record. Hobson received a first-round bye before scoring an 8-7 decision against Callan’s Nolan Vogel. Hobson secured the division title with an 11-0 technical fall against EAC’s Connor Olson.

Ava Barber took second in the 8U Bantam 66-67 Division with a 1-2 record, notching a 14-9 decision against Frankfort Gladiators wrestler Alexander Hallstrom. Conrad Barber took second in the 8U Bantam 70-76 Division and Teddy Millard placed third in the 12U Novice 64-69 Division with a 2-1 record, scoring a 10-0 technical fall against Beat the Streets wrestler Luciano Reyes and a 10-0 technical fall against Frankfort Gladiators wrestler Declan Kern.

Landyn Windham finished fourth in the 16U Cadets 167-180 Division with a 1-2 record, securing a 10-0 technical fall against Plainfield Wrestling Club’s Jacob Reece in the quarterfinal round.

Rochelle WC

The Rochelle Wrestling Club had two athletes in the 2023 Providence Catholic Freestyle Developmental tournament on Saturday. Cammyla Macias placed seventh in the 16U Cadets 113-120 Division with a 1-2 record, notching a fall over Englewood Live Wire's Mark Wilson in her final match. Rowen Villalobos placed second in the 10U Intermediate 58-67 Division with a 2-1 record, defeating Tinley Park's Nolan Guisinger by fall and Englewood Live Wire's Kaviel Coleman by 10-0 technical fall.
